I Saved Over $400/year Buying These 2 Items from Aldi
Over a year ago, We got an Aldi store down the road. The last time I was in an Aldi was the late 90’s when they were scary discount stores and not the markets they are today. I decided to give it a chance and check out the goods. I was surprised with the options available at the trusted Aldi discount price. So many organic and Gluten Free options that often sell for a premium at other stores. Over the past year, I have been purchasing the same two items that have ended up saving us close to $400 over the year!
Since we are living on a budget, it was important to find alternatives that allowed us to continue our organic journey. Leaving organics behind is not a compromise I was willing to make for my family but my wallet screamed otherwise. Buying just these 2 items over the year saved us financially and allowed us to use that saved money towards other organic items from others stores – since they were not readily available at Aldi.
Organic Milk: Aldi organic milk is almost $2-4 less than other grocery stores in the area. I was paying close to $4.99 a half gallon at a well-known organic store. The price at Aldis ranges from $2.25 to $2.50 a half gallon which is a significant saving when you are purchasing 1-2 containers a week. A lot of my mommy friends suggested Costco which is also an amazing deal but I don’t always have the refrigerator space to accommodate a Costco sized purchase. Aldi has been the great alternative for us.
Organic Produce: When our budget tightened up, so did our produce purchases. Thanks to the EWG Clean 15 list, I was able to prioritize which items we could purchase non-organic just to save a few dollars. Still, it was important to me that we purchase organic when possible. Especially items that were on the EWG Dirty Dozen list. That is where Aldi saved the day! I was able to purchase organic in-season fruits and veggies at non-organic prices. For example, I stopped at Aldi this morning to purchase some grapes. Organic grapes were selling for $3.99/bunch. Just yesterday, I almost purchased organic grapes from a local grocery store for $5.99. That is a $2 savings for the same grapes that my boys will inhale over a weekend.
There are plenty of other amazing deals at Aldi’s which I love including their organic eggs, organic cheese, and organic apple juice. Purchasing these items have allowed us to live the organic lifestyle without being a millionaire.
